Mary Carman

June 8, 1924 — September 14, 2013

Mary Martha Carman, 89, of Colby, passed away September 14, 2013 at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. She was born June 8, 1924 to Carlton and Viola (Long) Yeager. Her mother died a year and a month after she was born and her Grandmother Jennie and her Aunt Marie raised her. Mary grew up in Johnsville, Ohio were she attended Johnsville Grade School and High School graduating in 1942. After gradation she worked for Tappon Stove Company in Mansfield, Ohio. Mary was united in marriage on June 20, 1948 to Paul Carman of Selden at the Methodist Minsters home in Johnsville, Ohio. They moved to Selden in July of 1948 were Mary and Paul farmed four and a half miles North of Selden and she worked at the Hi-Way Café in Selden and the Bar-D-Bar Café in Oberlin. In 1972 they moved to Colby and she worked at the Ramada Inn as a Buffet Cook until she retired. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed going to their games, plays and concerts. She was a member of the Girl Scout as an assistant leader, in Selden and a member of the United Methodist Church in Johnsville, Ohio, Selden and Colby, the Women's Society of Christian Service of Selden, United Methodist Women of Colby, Colby Citizens Medical Center Auxiliary and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for 19 years. She and Paul received “The Family of The Year” at Colby Community College in 1989.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; mother and father in-law, Archie and Pearl; grandmother, Jennie Yeager; a daughter, Carolyn Kay (1955), sisters, Helen, Blanch and Mildred; brother, William; aunt, Marie.

She is survived by her children, Darrell of Oakley, Martin (Wilma) of Colby, Rochelle (Richard “Doc”) Mather of Clayton; a brother, Donald (Mary Lou) Yeager of Mansfield, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren 28 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 4-7pm on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Service will be 10:00am on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Colby.
