Marvin Joseph Sander, 87, of Oakley, died Saturday, April 23, 2022. He was born December 21, 1934, in rural Gove County, KS, to Severn and Bridget (Graf) Sander. After graduating from Monument High school in 1954, Marvin served in the United States Army. After completing his service, he then worked at Weaver Beaty, in Denver, CO and Dreiling Buick & Cadillac, Denver. He returned to Oakley, KS in 1982. During that time, he and his first wife Lois ran the Little Cafe until her death, and he worked for the City of Oakley as a mechanic until his retirement, in May of 1997. On September 6, 1997, Marvin married Erma (Stithem) Graham.

During his retirement, Marvin stayed active. He worked for Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas and taught the billiards class and worked for the USD #274 as a Headstart bus monitor. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and formerly of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles. In his free time, Marvin enjoyed playing cards with the Mo Fun card club and passing the love of playing 10-point pitch down to his kids and grandkids. He was always tinkering with something in his shop or working on his classic cars, and enjoyed going to car shows and being part of the Tri-County Cruisers car club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Lois; son Greg; son-in-law Jerry; brothers Edwin “Speed”, Alvin and Ronnie; sisters, Sandy, Rena, Alberta “Birdie” and Alice “Blacky”.

He is survived by his wife, Erma Graham-Sander; children, Darrin Sander, Kimberly (Rick) Salisbury, Mark (Melissa) Graham, Melissa (Trent) Pinero, Mitchell (Richard Young) Graham Jr. and Shelly Wilks; daughter-in-law, Wendy Schwarz; grandchildren, Amy Manwarren, Abigail Graham, Annastacia (Ryan) Mitchell, Audrey (Mark) Oller, Chris Wilks, Courtney Sander, Jeremy (Ragina) Wilks, Joanna Salisbury, Kaden Graham, Kyle Sander, Logan Salisbury, Natasha (Brett) Harris, Olivia Pinero, Taylor Sander, Trent Pinero II and Wyatt Salisbury; great grandchildren, Aiden Manwarren, Brooklynn Brown, Brooke Harris, Carli Manwarren, Carson Howard, Ember Wilks, Frankie Howard, Hailey Orender, Haley Wilks, Haylee Brown, Jacob Wilks, Jolene Wilks, Kody Harris, Kollin Sander, Kirsten Wilks, Lariah Wilks, Layton Oller, Lukas Brown, Raimey Mitchell and Raegyn Mitchell and great-great granddaughter Vivian Harris.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, with burial in the church cemetery.
