Marvin Hesterman, 88, of Atwood, died Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Wheat Haven Home in McDonald, KS. He was born September 16, 1932, near Ludell, Kansas, to John and Margaret (Holste) Hesterman. He was raised on the family farm, graduating from Atwood High School in 1951.
After serving in the US Army, he graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE, in 1959. Marvin married Karilyn Heermann December 19, 1959, in Tyler, TX. The couple later divorced. He married June Kastens McCoy June 16, 1979, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ludell, KS. Marvin taught in Lutheran and public schools in Tyler, TX, Sheboygan, WI, Junction City, KS, and Meade, KS. The couple retired to Atwood in 2006. Marvin was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Atwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Harry and Paula Kastens; siblings, Hubert Hestermann, and wife, Clara and Milton Hesterman, and wife, Myrna; a brother-in-law, Robert Harms; and nephews, Timothy Harms, Jordan Niermeier and Clifford Hestermann.
He is survived by his wife, June, of Atwood; children, Phillip (Rebecca) Hesterman, of Grand Island, NE, Terry (Beth) Hesterman, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Judith Cummins, of LaCygne, KS, Andrew (Megan) McCoy, of Belt, MT, Beth Hesterman (Jacob Fling and daughter Evie), of Lafayette, CO; grandchildren, Micah (Jenna) Hesterman, Andrea (Matthew) Simianer, Bryce Hesterman (fiancée Mikayla Hamann), Jonathan (Emma) Hesterman, Ryan Hesterman, Matthew Hesterman, Cade McCoy, Makena McCoy, Olivia King, Cohen King, David Saunders, Kimberlee (Lister) Potter; sister, Leona Harms; great-granddaughters, Lenora Simianer and Jennifer Potter; great-great-granddaughter, Ryla Aiello; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Baalmann Mortuary in Atwood. Funeral service will be 10:00am, Monday, January 4, 2021 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Atwood. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, north of Ludell, KS.
