Marion Charles “Cue” Crumrine went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 24, 2025. He was born in a dugout on the Beaver Creek northwest of Brewster, KS on November 18, 1931, to Howard and Lena Leota (Hartley) Crumrine. He lived south of Brewster with his folks, sister Malda, and brothers Virle and Mason.
Marion graduated from Brewster School in the spring of 1950. In the fall of 1952, Marion was inducted into the U.S. Army and left for Camp Roberts, California. When Marion returned home from boot camp, he married Donna Coleen Pfalser on April 14, 1953, at the United Methodist Church in Brewster. Married only ten days before Marion left for Korea on a 17-month tour of duty.
The couple had three children: Donna Carlene, Carolyn RaKay and Willard Marion. Marion took a job with the Brewster School as a bus mechanic from 1956-1977, then he went into farming. The joy of his life were his cattle and especially one called, “Rosie”.
Marion did custom cutting, served as the Brewster Fire Chief for 12 years, and was the head of the recreation board for the City of Brewster. Marion was commander of the Brewster V.F.W. Post, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1133, American Legion Post 363, Goodland Elks Club and the Brewster Square Dance Club. Marion honored veterans by placing flags and crosses at the Brewster Cemetery for 61 years on Memorial Day.
One thing Marion taught his children was to respect the elderly and the veterans of the United States. During his years of raising his children, there was never a time he did not salute the American Flag or acknowledge a veteran and thank them for their service. In October 2021, he was honored to go to Washington D.C. with the 85th Kansas Honor Flight.
Marion was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Coleen (Pfalser) Crumrine; daughter Carlene Moore; his parents and sister Malda (Crumrine) Patten.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn (Brian) Somers, Brewster; son Willard (Marla) Crumrine, Brewster; and son-in-law Joe Moore, Holiday Island, AR; six grandchildren, Jonathan (Angela) Moore, Mt. View, AR; Matthew (Sandra) Moore, Sierra Vista, AZ; Christi (John Schaefer) Somers, Marshall, MN, Chad Somers, Jackson, MN; Jesse (Sammie) Crumrine, Brewster and Melissa (Reuben) Schneider, Brewster; twelve great-grandchildren, Seth, Keaton, Sara, Kaylee, Sophia, Haleigh, Sean, Aubree, Burton, Leroy, Mia and Madelyn; and brothers Mason and Virle Crumrine.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. CT, with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Brewster Community Church. Memorials may be made to Northwest Kansas Heritage Center or the Brewster Senior Center and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
