Margene M. Griffin, 85, of Colby, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. She was born March 20, 1927 to Frank and Carrie (Henke) Gradig in rural Osborne County, KS. Margene married Jay E. Griffin on May 2, 1949. She worked for 42 years as a Registered Nurse in the Colby hospitals, was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was involved with Heartland SHARE.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jay E. Griffin (2008); brothers, Ray and Marvin; a sister, Joan Hellmer; grandson, Eric Griffin and great-granddaughter, Kailee Clapp.
She is survived by six daughters, Janette Clapp (fiancé Dave Schissler) McCook, NE; Janice (Leo) Bjurstrom, Leoti; Jane (Kerry) Maddy, Altus, OK; JoAnn (Mark) Linnell, Goddard; Jerri Griffin, Hutchinson and Janell Griffin, Colby; two sons, Jim (Kacy) and Jeff (Jennifer) all of Colby; two sisters, Della Kubicki, Columbus, OH and Carol Ann (Ed) Grealish, Winder, GA; a brother Dick (Rose) Gradig, Downs; 27 grandchildren, 33 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:30 pm Friday, March 1, 2013 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby with a vigil service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
