Margaret Lucille Powers, 94, of Grainfield, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014. She was born October 18, 1920, in rural Park, KS to Nick and Marie Eva (Hartman) Malsom. She graduated from Gove Rural High School. She served in the Waves during WWII and was honorably discharged. On June 6, 1946 Margaret married Robert M. Powers. Margaret and Robert farmed west of Gove for nearly 40 years before retiring to Grainfield in 1983 and she later moved to the GCMC apartments. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Hackberry Hoppers and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, May 5, 1997; son, Douglas, Jan. 31, 1982; daughter-in-law, Kathy Powers; sisters, Catherine Clay, Lena Marshall, Theresa Nance and Elizabeth Ann Malsom; brothers, Phillip Malsom and Joseph Malsom.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Lonnie Powers of Maricopa, AZ and Eugene (Carol) Powers of Paola, KS; brother, Frank (Dorothy) Malsom of Wellington, KS; grandchildren, Justin Powers of Columbia, MO, Chance (Bok) Powers of Olathe, KS, Kerry (John) Cowart of Hoboken, NJ and Karisa (Floyd) Truetken of Roswell, NM; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan and Katherine Truetken of Roswell, NM.
Visitation will be 5:30- 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. Funeral Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Grainfield.
