Margaret Ellen Fikan, 84, of Atwood, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood, KS.
She was born August 22, 1934, in Catlettsburg, KY, to Jess and Flora (Hurt) Robinson. She graduated from high school in Ashland, KY, in 1952 and went to work for Cappel’s Furniture Store as a bookkeeper in Dayton, OH. She met Lyonald John Fikan, who was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB, and they married in March 1955 and moved to his family farm in Atwood.
Margaret grew up as a “city girl” but she adapted well to life on the farm and actively participated in helping her husband with the day-to-day operation of running the farm/ranch. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking, singing, line dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught children’s classes, sang in the choir, played hand bells and cooked and served for funeral dinners. She also volunteered many years at the Good Samaritan Center. She was a hard-working, positive, happy person and will be missed greatly by her friends and family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lyonald and her brothers, Eugene and Jess Jr. Robinson.
She is survived by her two children, Ron Fikan and wife Colleen, of Atwood and Pam Jesch and husband Don of Bartlesville, OK; four grandchildren, Scott Fikan, of Atwood, Andy Fikan, of Eureka, CA, Blake Jesch and wife Kristin, of Edmond, OK and Heather Conley and husband Nick, of Nashville, TN and two great grandchildren, Kate and Claire Jesch.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Atwood United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
