Mardell Rose Buford, 81, of Atwood, KS, died on Monday March 17th, 2025. She was born in Colby, KS on May 31, 1943, to Harry and Alice (Dozbaba) Kogl.
Mardell grew up in rural Atwood and graduated from Atwood High School in 1961. On August 25, 1962, she married Dennis Buford and they welcomed three sons, Trevor Lee, Tracy Lynn and Tyler Lane. Mardell was very proud of her boys and family and adored each one. A truly caring person, Mardell never missed a birthday, anniversary or major life event by sending a card carefully written in her beautiful penmanship. The grandchildren meant the world to her, she loved spending time and creating cherished memories with them. Her entire extended family felt her love as she always kept track of everyone’s interests and events. Her zest for life was exhibited in her love for independence, creating a beautiful home and yard that she meticulously maintained and decorated in her own style. Always a busy body, she loved working for many years at the pharmacy where we are almost positive she knew everyone by name. In her retirement you’d find her running around town visiting friends and running errands but rarely sitting still. Faith meant everything to her, as she was a consistent member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church her entire life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vivian Bondurant, her brother, Larry Kogl, her husband, Dennis, and their son, Trevor Lee.
She is survived by her children, Tracy Buford and wife Vicki and Tyler Buford and wife Jenn; grandchildren, Trevor, Carly and Trey Buford; siblings, Jim Kogl and wife Vickie and Julian and husband Larry Woodward; nieces, Amy Milton (Stephen), Alison Gerfen (Keith) and Erin Schnee (Cody); nephews, Ceth Woodard (Darlene), Sam Kogl and Harrison Kogl (Daniel), and countless friends.
The family will be celebrating her life starting with a rosary at 10:00am, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood. The funeral Mass will start at 10:30 am. Cremation was chosen. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood. A luncheon at the Catholic Church will be held after the burial services. Memorials are suggested to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. Online condolences: www.baalmannmortuary.com
