Mads W. “Bud” Andersen, 81 of Oakley Kansas died Wednesday September 14, 2011 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City Ks. He was the only child of Mads F. and Edna (Hapes) Andersen he was born in Oakley. Bud graduated from Oakley High School in 1949. He served in the Navy from 1952-1953 on the Bryce Canyon a destroyer tender ship. He was honorably discharged early from the service to tend the family farm as his father was no longer able to. He married Ann Lindeman on August 24, 1960. They had three children. He was a member of the Oakley VFW Post 2981.
Bud was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a devoted farmer and rancher, and took pride in his son and grandson continuing to carry on the tradition of family farming. Bud believed in keeping up with change and when new farming practices presented themselves he embraced them.
Bud enjoyed spending time with family and friends and has many fond memories of the card clubs he and Ann belonged to and times at Trenton Lake in Nebraska. He and his son Greg shared the same birthday and they always spent that day fishing together rain or shine. He was known for his humor and knack for pranking family and friends. Bud will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and in 2009 by Ann his loving wife of 48 years.
He is survived by his two sons Greg and wife Mary of rural Oakley and Kirk Everitt, Washington; a daughter Gara Zeigler of Oakley; two grand children Casey and wife Brandy Andersen of rural Oakley and Linley Andersen of Manhattan; two great-grandchildren Bailey Andersen and Cody Andersen of rural Oakley.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Baalmann Mortuary. Vigil service will start at 7 p.m. A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 a.m. on September 19, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic church, Oakley. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
