Lucy A. Baalmann Curtin, 97, of Lawrence, formerly of Colby, died the first day of Spring, Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living, in Lawrence. KS. Lucy was born September 20, 1918, to Bernadiene (Huelsmann) and Herman Baalmann, in Angelus, KS. She attended Campus and Angelus Schools. After secondary school she trained as a registered nurse in Salina, KS. She worked at St. Thomas Hospital in Colby until 1950.
Lucy married James L Curtin on February 20, 1949. They had four children: James Michael (Mike), Janice Ann, Mary Elizabeth and Robert William.
Lucy lived all of her adult life in Colby, KS, at the corner of fifth and Range. She was known for her beautiful flowers and manicured lawn there for many years. She was a very charitable woman always helping friends and relatives. She was very dedicated to her Catholic Faith.
Lucy spent the last six months in Lawrence, KS at an assisted living apartment. It did not take long for her to endear herself to the staff and the residents there.
She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, in 1971; daughter Janice Ann Mauk, in 1984; as well as her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Mike (Karen) and Robert (Jo Ann); daughter, Mary Lemesany; eight grandchildren, Kelsey, Silas, Aaron, Amos and Patrick Mauk, Lori (Kyle) Bartel, Elissa (Austin) Koelling and Catrina Lemesany; five step grandchildren, Katherine, David and Faith, Greg and Leslie; eight great grandchildren, Levi Mauk, Kensington and Paisley Bartel, Connor, Emerson and Adalyn Keolling, April Mauk and Madeline Mauk.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00am, Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic School, in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby KS 67701. Online condolences: www.baalmannmortuary.com
