Lou Kersenbrock

August 9, 1939 — January 7, 2014

Luella "Lou" Kersenbrock 74 was born on August 9, 1939 to William Henry Miller and Lillian Irene Miller-Mosier. Lou passed away early Tuesday morning, January 7, 2014, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Prior to Lou’s graduation from high school, she would spend several summers living with her Aunt Genevieve and Uncle Harlan where she worked at Frederick’s Pharmacy part-time. Lou graduated from Decatur County Community High School in 1957 and moved back to Colby, KS to live permanently. She rented a room from Buelah Price where she became part of the Third Street “gang”. Lou continued working for Fredrick’s Pharmacy full-time in downtown Colby and later obtained a job at Farm Bureau Insurance. In 1957 she met her husband Bill Kersenbrock. They were married on April 3, 1960, at the First Christian Church in Colby, KS. To this union, two children were born. Bradley Scott was born January 30, 1961 and Lesley Dawn was born August 28, 1963. Lou took a break from work to raise her children until they attended school. She went back to work for Farm Bureau in 1967, then began her work at Colby Community College as the faculty secretary. She worked for CCC and attended many classes until she retired in 1999 after 37 years of service. In the mid-eighties, Lou began the reign of her many hobbies. She began cross stitching and would take it to many gatherings where she would quietly listen and work on her latest project. This talent evolved from cross stitching into scapbooking, painting, ceramics, photography and to her all-time passion, stamping. Many people were lucky recipients of her talents whether it was pictures, crocheted towels, pottery, but mostly her beautiful cards. She also enjoyed working out in her flower beds. Lou’s passion did not stop with her hobbies. Her biggest love, besides her husband, was attending all of her children and grandchildren’s practices and events. She loved taking pictures of her grandchildren whether it was photo shoots during the holidays, sporting events or activities. She created beautiful scrapbooks of each grandchild, which they love. The memories that Lou has created will last a lifetime. Lou not only had several talents but she had many friends. She loved travelling with Bill and her friends Jim and Judie Withers, going to lunch with her lunch bunch girls, Saturday lunch at Twisters with the Shooters group, attending Super Bowl parties and going to home games. Lou was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Irene Dye and Peggy North. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill of Colby; her son Brad of Colby, daughter and son-in-law Lesley and Jeff Wagoner of Colby; three grandchildren Brittany Kersenbrock of Overland Park, Tasha Wagoner of Colby and Brock Wagoner of Colby. She is also survived by three sisters Waunita Stoney of Oberlin, Pat Gustus of Geneseo, Fern Mosier of Oberlin, two brothers and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Colby United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel.
