Lloyd Luther

December 13, 1920 — January 10, 2011

Lloyd Aaron Luther, 90, of Winona, died Monday, January 10, 2011. He entered this world on December 13, 1920 as the second child of Aurthur Wesley and Viola Ellen (Newell) Luther. Lloyd was raised on his family farm west of Winona, along with his three sisters Marjorie, Louise, Rosalie and little brother, Lyle. Lloyd received his education in McAllister, KS attending school through the 8th grade. He also grew up attending the McAllister assembly of God Church. That is where he met Thelma Mather. Lloyd and Thelma were married April 12th, 1940. He and Thelma resided on his parents homestead and moved into their house when his parents moved to town. Lloyd was a farmer and rancher alongside his father for many years. To Lloyd and Thelma’s union were born, first a son Phillip Earl, then a daughter, Margaret Leigh “Peggy”, followed by three more sons, Loren Wesley, Lyle Eugene and Michael Dale. Shortly after the birth of their youngest son, Mike, Lloyd took a job with the Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 18 years, until he quit to work on the farm full time. He loved his children very much, and was the proud granddad to eight grandchildren. Later in life, Lloyd made his home in Winona, KS. He may have moved to town, but he could never give up his beloved cattle. Lloyd spent most of his time caring for and simply watching his cattle. They were the love of his life. He could be found at the Colby Livestock Auction almost every single Thursday. He enjoyed that very much. Lloyd also loved to visit with friends in Sharon Springs at Stephen’s Café, The Colonial Steakhouse in Oakley and the Winona Bar and Grill. In fact that is where he celebrated his 90th birthday just a month ago with many special friends and family. Lloyd has enjoyed attending the Berean Church in Colby for the last several years. Lloyd loved God! He loved his family and he ALSO loved his friends very much!

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents Aurthur and Viola Luther; a sister Louise McCarty, a son Lyle “Gene” Luther; and one grandson Lloyd “Butch” Luther.

Lloyd is survived by Thelma Luther (Sharon Spring); two sisters Margie Walker, (Utica), Rosalie Cheney and husband Carol, (Utica); his brother Lyle E.
