Lillian Sramek

June 19, 1918 — January 31, 2014

Lillian Margaret (Faimon) Sramek, 95, departed this earthly life on January 31, 2014 at Good Samaritan Center in Atwood, KS. She was born June 19, 1918 at the family farm 10 ½ miles southeast of Stratton, Nebraska and was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kopriva) Faimon. She attended St. John Nepomucene Church, northwest of Atwood, where she received her religious education and the Sacraments of Baptism, the Holy Eucharist, Confirmation and Marriage. She attended grade and high school in the Stratton, NE rural and city school. She taught in the rural school in Hitchcock County, NE for five terms and attended Kearney State Teachers College, paying her own way from her teacher’s salary. Lillian and Anselm Sramek were united in marriage on August 18, 1943 and made their home in Atwood, KS where they owned Sramek Jewelry from 1939 to 1954. She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family, gardening and sewing dresses and blouses for her daughters and her. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Alter Society where she served one term as President and served in the Colby Deanery of the Salina Council of Catholic Women for eight years as Treasurer and Secretary. Lillian’s great love for music and talent was gladly shared for the honor and glory of God, by being an organist at Sacred Heart Church and for the joy of the residents at the Good Samaritan Center, where she had been a resident since August 31, 1987.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Anselm on October 26, 1985; brothers John, Edward, Benedict, Joseph, Stanley and Richard; sisters, Helen, Antoinette Luamann, Martha, Mary Micek and Anna Musalek.

She is survived by her children, Mary Louise (Robert) Levesque, Omaha, NE, Stanley James, Houston, TX, Frederick Anselm, Denver, CO and Loretta Margaret (Robert) Kehle, Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren, Michael, Theresa, Catherine, Adam and Nathan and great-grandchildren Alexander and Mason.

Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood with vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood, KS with internment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Atwood. Memorials are suggested to the Rawlins County Museum, Good Samaritan Center or Sacred Heart Catholic Church in care of Baalmann Mortuary, 109 N 2nd, Atwood, KS 67730.
