Leon Zerr

Leon B. Zerr, age 66, of Grinnell, KS passed away after a single auto accident on October 29, 2022. Leon was the eldest son of Vince and the late Kathleen Zerr.

Leon attended Angelus Grade School and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1975. At GHS Leon was the first wrestler to win a regional wrestling championship and qualify for the state wrestling tourney. His five younger brothers followed his lead, and all were state qualifiers and or state placers. His lifework was in the oil fields, farms, mines, lumber and transportation industry in Kansas and neighboring states.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors with the love of his life Lois, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and time with friends and family.

Leon is survived by his only daughter Ashley Lanning, of Lawrence, KS; his father, Vincent Zerr, of Grinnell; favorite sister Sherri (Bob) Kuhlman, of Oakley; his brothers, Rocky, of Oakley, Darrell (Diane), of Centennial, CO, Tom (Donna) of Kansas City, MO, Don (Anne) of Aurora, CO and Curtis, of Park City, KS, and his 2 grandchildren, Lisa and Lena Lanning of Lawrence, KS.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Zerr and his mother Kathleen (Baalman) Zerr.

A memorial Mass is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, in Angelus, KS., with Fr. Luke Thielen as celebrant.
