Leo M. Ludwig, 86, of Oakley, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Logan County Hospital. He was born March 19, 1926 to Math and Ethel (Adams) Ludwig in Cheyenne Wells, CO. He attended the Catholic School and graduated from Cheyenne Wells High School in 1943. He worked in the family grocery store until he enlisted in the United States Navy in February of 1944. He served aboard the USS Haven, a hospital ship in the Pacific area. He was discharged from the Navy in May 1946. He returned to Cheyenne Wells and went back to work in the family store. On May 4th 1947 he married Lillie McGowan at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Goodland. In 1949 they moved to Oakley where they raised their family of six Children. They were married for over 65 years. He went to work for the local IH dealer, C.D. Clark and Sons for 40 years. Leo was active in many civic and school endeavors. He served for two terms on the Oakley City Coucil and served as City Treasurer for 34 years. He served on the St. Joseph Parish Council for many years. Leo retired in 1989. After his retirement he and Lil did extensive traveling which included a 6 week tour of Europe.
Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Theodore, James and Joseph; a sister, Ione.
Survivors include wife, Lillie, of the home; four sons, Richard (Nancy) Ludwig, Gardner, Ronald (Mary) Ludwig, Denver, Co, Stephen (Debbie) Ludwig, Lenexa and James (Carol) Ludwig, Andover; two daughters, Paula (Dan) Naden, Gardner and Katie (Joe) Bollig, Pueblo West, CO; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley with a vigil/rosary service starting at 7:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley.
