Lavina Waters

LaVina Ruth (Binning) Waters, 94, of McDonald, Kansas, died Thursday, July 28, 2022. She was born on February 4, 1928, in Brewster, Kansas to John and Ruth (Chrisman) Binning. She had 4 siblings: Daisy, Letha, Robert, and Louise.

LaVina was married to Keith Andrews in November of 1948 and had 4 children. In 1972 she married Fred Waters. She and Fred combined families and were blessed to have 5 beautiful, loving children in their blended family.

LaVina and Fred have 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way. Family was incredibly important to her, and she had a special relationship with her tribe and all of those that thought of her as family.

She was a cosmetologist, a self-taught cook, led Emotions Anonymous, worked with the Awanas, and was a partner to Fred with his counseling business.

LaVina loved spending time in the mountains, making quilts with the McDonald Federated Guild, gardening, her husband Fred, her children, her church, and Jesus.

For all of those that knew and loved LaVina, for those of you that thought of her as a second mom, know that you were loved by her, you meant the world to her, and she was thankful for each and every one of you.

She was a special woman, that will be incredibly missed. We were all blessed to have her in our lives.

She is survived by her husband Fred, of Colby, KS; children, Kathy (Rick) Frisbie, of McDonald, Becky (Ray) Nelson, of Rifle, Colorado, Kurt Andrews, of Corvallis, Oregon, Blake Waters, of Basehor, Kansas, and Jeana (Kevin) Penny of Burlington, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her infant son; her siblings; her daughter-in-law Kathryn Waters, and her great-granddaughter Ava Parshall.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Federated Church of McDonald, with inurnment in Grace Cemetery, McDonald. Memorials may be made to the Rawlins County Historical Society, for the upkeep of Stevens Chapel, and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
