Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Rains, 71, of Oakley, died Sunday, June 7, 2020, at the Logan County Hospital. She was born January 31, 1949, in Selden, KS, to Leonard and Elda (Kincaid) Brown. Kathy graduated from Selden High School in 1967 and attended Goodland Vo-Tech for cosmetology. On February 21, 1971, Kathy married Mike Rummel and they moved to Oakley. To this union two children were born, daughter Jodee and son Kelly. After Mike’s passing, Kathy married Jeffrey Rains, in 1998. Kathy worked many jobs to support her family, most recently working for the Logan County Hospital. Her most treasured job was driving bus and getting to know the children who rode it. Kathy loved to spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed a rum and coke, a chocolate malt from the Dairy King and hot tamales. Kathy also liked to spend her free time gambling, doing yard work and making mints for weddings. She loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. Kathy was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, in Page City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Elda; step-dad, Albert “Red” Campbell; husbands, Mike Rummel and Jeffrey Rains; sister Deanna Heffington and brothers-in-law, Jerry Heffington, Joe Kruse and Leon Werth.
Kathy is survived by her children, Jodee (Doug) Reed, of Oakley and Kelly (Flora) Rummel, of Quinter; sisters, Janice Kruse, of Selden, Shirley (Omar) Weber, of Colby and Charlene (Garry) Hollandworth, of WaKeeney; grandchildren, Julie and Pierce Rummel, K.J., Michael and McCulley Reed and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2020 at The Cave, Oakley. A private graveside service will take place at the Oakley City Cemetery.
