Joseph Anton Samson Sr, 90, of Ludell, died Thursday, November 28, 2024. He was born January 1, 1934, in Ludell, KS, to Alfred and Pearl (Dostal) Samson. Joe graduated from Atwood High School in 1952 and served in the United States Army for two years as an electrician and military police officer. Upon his return from service, Joe farmed and ranched with his father. On May 27, 1953, Joe married Jill Robbins, and the couple had two children.
Joe was a member of the Atwood American Legion, National Rifle Association and the Tri-State Antique Auto Club. He enjoyed collecting antique cars and tractors, silversmithing jewelry and woodworking. He proudly built the house they lived in and made a little museum at the farm for his collections. He also had a lifelong love of animals, especially dogs and cats. Along with dancing, he enjoyed traveling and visited 49 states and Canada. Fishing in Alaska was one of his favorite trips.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jill; daughter Colleen Kopfman and two sisters.
He is survived by his son, Joe Samson Jr.; grandchildren, Jeremy (Bethany) Samson, Jeff (Misty) Samson, Crystal (Tom) Payton DeMott, Kevin Sean Payton, 7 great grandchildren, and companion of 10 years, Mary Hurtt.
Memorials Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the First Christian Church, Atwood. Memorials may be made to the Renew Ludell Fund and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
