Joseph Benjamin Cox, whom we all knew as Joe, was born on a hot day in Atwood, July 16, 1957. He was the youngest child of JB and Ada Lee (Bowles) Cox. He grew up in the Atwood area enjoying all the fun, farm activities that kids do, including riding ponies. He attended school in Atwood. Joe loved playing football, running in track, and playing on the golf team. He made a lot of lifelong friends along the way. He graduated from high school in 1976.
Joe pursued his dream of becoming a chiropractor by attending Kansas State University, Colby Community College and graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College, Davenport, Iowa, in 1981, with a doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine.
He then packed up his car and headed to Las Vegas, where he joined a practice that would further his training in kinesiology. While in Las Vegas, he met his wife, Laura Ely. They later moved to the Portland, Oregon area, purchasing a practice and clinic in Tigard, Oregon. Joe moved back to Atwood in the fall of 2011 following a near fatal brain injury due to a fall.
After returning to Atwood, he practiced with the Active Balance Clinic in Atwood and Bird City. He enjoyed making a difference in the lives of his clients by using his knowledge of kinesiology and his genuine desire to help people.
If Joe couldn’t be found at the clinic or at his home, watching the golf channel on T.V., you can bet he was on the golf course swinging at that little white ball!
Joe passed away Oct. 31, 2016 at the Rawlins County Hospital with family at his side.
Preceding Joe in death was his mother, Ada Lee. Surviving are his father JB, of Atwood; his brother, Craig and wife Diane, of McDonald and his sister Cindy and husband Jim Imel, of Bucklin. Joe also leaves 3 nephews, 3 step nephews and their families and a host of relatives and friends.
