JoAnne Vaughn, 78, of Colby passed away January 4, 2012 at the Citizens Medical Center, Colby. She was born June 12, 1933 in Rexford Kansas. JoAnne was second child of Albert and Maude Garrett; she grew up in Rexford Kansas. During her high school years she participated in sports, cheerleading and loved riding horses. She also graduated from Clark Business School in Denver Co. On Dec. 28, 1951 she was united in marriage to Norris Vaughn. They lived in several places through the years before the settled on a farm south of Selden. To this union four children were born, Steve, Janet, Judy and Chuck. In 1967 they moved to Colby after purchasing the Colby Livestock Auction. After building a successful business they sold the auction in 1983 and continued working together as partners in several other agriculture related businesses. After Norris’s untimely death in 1991 she continued running the family business with her son Steve. JoAnne also owned and managed the Carousel Beauty Salon with daughter Judy for many years. JoAnne was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, taught numerous Sunday School Classes including classes that all four children attended. She volunteered at the Citizens Medical Center and several other community organizations. She was still an active board member of the ADAC. JoAnne enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing, playing golf, bowling, and playing cards with her bridge clubs.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband Norris, parents Albert & Maude Garrett, in-laws John & Gladys Vaughn.
Survivors include her two sons, Steve and wife Linda of Colby, Chuck and wife Rhonda of Topeka; two daughters, Janet Johnson and husband Joe of Bertrand, Neb., and Judy Harger and husband Howard of Colby; two Sisters, Sharlene Schrock of Holbrook NE., and Carol Jones of Austin TX.; 11 Grandchildren, Travis Vaughn, Mandy McAtee, Lance & Brooks Vaughn, Shelly Wiles, Mike Johnson, Derek Vaughn, Shawndra – Shelby – Shaelum Barnett, Anglea Rinehart. Many Great Grandchildren and a host of family and many friends.
Visitation will be Friday Jan 6, 2012 from 2 – 7 p.m. at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Jan 7, 2012 at the Colby United Methodist Church. Memorial may be made to the Methodist Church, Colby Ks, in care of Baalmann Mortuary, P.O. Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
