Jesse Lee Hockersmith, 52, of Victoria, KS, died Friday, May 26, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS. He was born December 8, 1970, in Colby, KS, to Terry and Betty (Schwarz) Hockersmith. Jesse graduated from Oakley High School in 1989. He then attended Northwest Kansas Area Vo-Tech, graduating in 1990, as an Auto Body Technician
Jesse married Primrose Lea Avila on August 10, 1991, in Oakley, KS. They had four children. He worked at AAA Mobile Glass and Body Shop, G & S Construction, and at Hays Chevrolet (FKA Clay Chevrolet and Paul MacDonald Chevrolet) for 24 years.
He was artistic, creative, hardworking, and able to fix anything. He built a model train and RC car racetrack room, mini choppers, patented his own auto body tool, rebuilt cars, especially old suburbans, and motorcycles. Jesse enjoyed all his children's activities, telling stories and jokes with his family and friends, riding motorcycles, racing go carts and RC cars/planes, shooting guns, rockets, and fireworks.
He is survived by wife Primrose Hockersmith, children, Wheaton (Aspen) Hockersmith, Sienna Hockersmith, Rylee Hockersmith and Vance Hockersmith; parents: sister, Melanie Hockersmith; sister-in-law Alicia (Dalin) Unruh; brother-in-law Frank Avila; nephews, Bryce Fortin and Ryan (Robyn) Unruh; nieces Cheyann Fortin, Karen (Cliff) Leonhardt and Jeana Unruh and great nephews, Gabe, Ryker, and Tristyn Leonhardt.
Preceded in death by in-laws, Guadalupe and Sylvanna (Wassemiller) Avila; grandparents, Fred and Marie (Moellering) Schwarz and Willis and Elta Louise (Brooks) Hockersmith, and nephew Jacob Lane Unruh.
Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Basilica of St. Fidelis, in Victoria, KS. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m., in the Monument Cemetery, Monument, KS.
