Jerry Lee White > > Jerry Lee White was born on May 5, 1952 in Quinter, Kansas to Herbert (Woody) White and Carolee (LaVada) Stillwell. He died on July 2, 2018 in Colby, Kansas. > > His early years were spent on the farm outside of Hoxie. He then moved around western Kansas with his family, including Hoxie, Menlo, Rexford, and then moved with the family to Colby in 1960. As a child, he loved adventure and exploring around the farm and neighborhood. Living in Colby, a block away from the park, provided lots of opportunities for using his imagination. In the summer, he spent hours at the pool. He was on the swim team and played baseball. He was also in Scouts in his early years while living in Rexford. > > He attended grade school, middle school, and high school in Colby. He graduated in 1970. He enjoyed wrestling and debate in high school and then attended Colby Community College taking classes in the radio program. > > On May 28, 1971 he married Pamela Weeks. This union produced a daughter Mindy and son Brian and 4 grandchildren. > > As a teenager, he had several jobs, including delivering the Rocky Mountain News and working at Safeway. Thereafter, he began a profession with various farm implement dealers, including Colby Truck and Tractor, W-R Truck and Tractor in Goodland, and Lang Diesel. He was a dedicated parts manager for more than 30 years until retiring. > > He belonged to the Jaycees. He was a sports enthusiast following Colby High School Sports, especially wrestling. He loved KU sports, the Chiefs, and the Royals. You could often find him watching two sporting events on a split screen television while listening to the Royals on the radio. He also enjoyed playing poker with his friends. He played on two Colby league basketball teams, Ron’s Rollers and Colby Hopes, as a young adult. He loved bowling and those infamous state bowling trips. He loved golfing, including playing in numerous golf tournaments. > > He loved visiting his children and grandchildren and never missed opportunities to spend time with them. He never missed a family gathering at the holidays, loved cooking the turkey, and made it to almost all of the White Family Reunions. Some of us remember the trips in the old blue van. > > Jerry is survived by his daughter, Mindy and Terry Meador of Porter, OK, son Brian and Rebecca White of Wichita, KS. Mother LaVada Campbell of Colby, KS, brothers John and Dona White; Grant and Rhonda White of Colby, KS. Sisters Linda and Wes Rummel of Goodland, KS; Debbie and Bill Messamore of Wichita, KS; Karen Harper of Wichita, KS and Tracy Campbell of Colby, KS; four grandchildren, Heath and Haylee Meador of Porter OK, and Leah and Harrison White of Wichita, KS. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews, and their spouses, many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous long-time friends.
