Jerome Fredrick Gormley, 81, of Grinnell, died Monday, October 18, 2021. He was born February 7, 1940, in Grinnell, KS, to Chester and Reba (Schroeder) Gormley. Jerry was a lifelong farmer, who never stopped working. He devoted his life to his work and was a perfectionist in whatever he did, never quitting until the job was done right. If he wasn’t in the field, you could find him in his shop where he always had a project going and was often inventing or creating things. When he did take a break from work, Jerry kept busy watching sports on TV and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. On April 11, 1961, Jerry married Jeanie Stephens and to this union three children were born.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Anita Huelsmann and brother Randall Struckhoff.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanie; children, Sharon (Don) Burks, Steven (Melissa Shupe) and James; sister Judy (Roger) Hartman; brother-in-law Charlie Huelsman; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Grinnell, KS, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
