Janice Lea Hutfles Sattler, 90, of Atwood, departed this life Monday January 6th, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Home in Atwood. Janice was born June 21, 1934, in Herndon, KS to Clemens and Alice Hutfles. Janice was the eldest and was raised with her sisters Marlene Marie, Julie Ann, and brother Clem Jr.
Janice was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Herndon. She attended Catholic School for eight years and then graduated from Herndon High.
Janice became the wife of George Albert Sattler on October 20, 1954, at the celebrated Mass in St. Mary’s Church. Six sons and one daughter were born to the marriage: George Randolph, Jayme Kent, Ronald Gerard, Jerald Lee, Daniel Joseph, Robert Clemens, and Mary Kaye. They raised their family in the friendly town of Herndon where George and sons farmed close by. Gardening, cooking, baking, embroidering, reading, and sewing were a big part of her life. Her home was a place of hard work, good food, and laughter. She was an amazing cook with family vividly remembering her fried chicken, pot roast, or homemade cream puffs. She always offered a warm smile with a hug, and had a way of making everyone feel so special and cared for.
Janice was employed and enjoyed her job with friends at the State Bank of Herndon. Her son Jayme attended PDC in Atwood, and the two moved to Atwood where she was employed at the Farmers Bank and Trust, PDC Ceramic Shop, and then manager at the Obert Senior Center until retirement.
Janice dedicated her life to her faith, family, and acts of service. Her unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her every step and inspiring those around her. As a faithful member of Saint Mary’s church in Herndon and Sacred Heart Church in Atwood she found joy in attending mass, praying the Rosary, and serving as a Christian Mother. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a constant source of love, wisdom, and encouragement to all around her.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Clem and Alice; husband George; sister Marlene and Tom Cook, as well as son Jayme. She is survived by her sister Julie (Bob) Hafner and brother Clem (Amy) Hutfles. Her children- George (Michelle) Sattler, Ronald (Cynthia) Sattler, Jerald “Jerry” Sattler, Daniel (Karen) Sattler, Robert (Cathy) Sattler, and Mary (Brian) Clark.
