Jane Sawyer Kersenbrock Jane Sawyer Kersenbrock, age 76, died June 26, 2014 at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, KS. She was born July 29, 1937 in Boston, Mass. to Paul and Mildred (Dodge) Sawyer. Jane attended grade school at the Little Red School House in South Sudbury, Mass. where the poem “Mary Had a Little Lamb” was authored . She graduated Maynard High School in Maynard, Mass. in 1955. She married Jack Kersenbrock June 17, 1956 in Maynard, Mass. They moved to Kansas where she continued her education by receiving her bachelor’s degree in Library Science from Northwestern University in Alva, Okla. and her master’s degree in secondary education from Fort Hays State University. Jane taught a variety of subjects to grade school through high school age students around the state of Kansas and also college students through Colby Community College, Fort Hays State University, and Wichita State University outreach classes. Jane was a member of the Norton United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Mates in Ministry, and Retired Ministers and Spouses Assn. She served on committees within those organizations. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son Keith, and grandson Jaz. She is survived by her husband of 58 years; son and wife Dwayne and Renae of Colby; daughter Luann and Gary Horchem of Ransom; daughter Kris and Mark Schulte of Sedgwick; one sister Marie Holbrook, Northeaston, Mass.; ten grandchildren: Kyle Kersenbrock and Treasure of Colby; Katie and Nathan Watts, Dallas, Tex.; Angela Horchem and Matt Walley, Tuscan, Ariz.; Jerod Horchem and Megan, Arnold; Jennifer Horchem and Michael Costello, Wichita; Ashley Kersenbrock, Andover; Erik Kersenbrock; David, Alex, and Benjamin Schulte, Sedgwick; and one loved dog child, Tinker Bell. Jane loved to travel. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and needlework. She was a Creative Memories consultant. Above all she was a people person. She was a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Jane and Jack went on a 7 day blitz build in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Jane could be counted on to pitch in and help when needed. She also enjoyed spoiling her dog Tinker Bell. She loved decorating for the Christmas season. She enjoyed taking care of her plants. Funeral services will be July 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Norton United Methodist Church with Pastors Lynn Linde and Bob Speer officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in her name for “Friends of Prairie Dog State Park” or United Methodist Committee on Relief. Kersenbrock Funeral Home, Colby is in charge of arrangements.
