James Robert “Jim” Malone was born 1936 in Topeka, Kansas, to Audrey and Clarence Malone and passed away on 22. February 2019 in Bühl, near Baden-Baden, Germany, at the age of 82. He was flown one last time to his homeland, where he loved to spend time on the Malone homestead in the prairie of North West Kansas and also celebrated his 80th birthday with relatives, neighbors and friends.
First, he studied in the U.S. at the University of Notre Dame, then in Vienna, Austria, and graduated from the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 1968 with a PHD in chemistry, followed by a successful career as production plant director of Bayer in Kansas City and Leverkusen, Germany. He spent most of his retirement in the Black Forest near Baden-Baden, Germany, but was also twice a year at Shamrock Ranch for a longer time, where he planted more than 200 cedar trees on the Kansas home quarter.
Jim was predeceased by his infant brother George and his son Kilian. Survivors include his wife Wiltrud, his daughter Almut, his son in law Lothar, his grandson Jason, and his sisters Martha and Therese.
A mass of Christian burial in memory of Jim will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood on April 22, 2019 at 2 p.m. According to his life-long will interment will follow on St. Patrick’s cemetery in former Tully, Rawlins county, Kansas.
