Jackie (Jack) Wilbur Stevenson went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 88 at his home in Oakley, Kansas on Monday December 24, 2018. He died of natural causes and was held in God’s loving grace as he went.
Jack was born to William and Francis Stevenson on April 5th, 1930 at the homestead in rural Gove County. Jack had 4 siblings with one remaining. Jack was a story teller, a man after God’s own heart. He loved the Lord and he loved people well. Jack once said of a hitchhiker he had picked up, “I know he is taking advantage of me, but if I can give him the gospel, it’s all worth it.” And that was Jack; he would give you the shirt off his back. He was a faithful servant and was more concerned about his children all the way up until he passed away. Jack served in the US army with the 53rd AAA Gun Battalion and was heavily involved with the VFW along with many other community events and organizations. His service included helping the Gideon’s by delivering bibles to schools and hotels. He regularly attended the Country Chapel, which is the church he helped found and build. It has been said, even if they didn’t know him well, that he left some sort of impact on their lives, and was loved.
He was an amazing Dad to 5 children, Grandpa to 20 grandkids and a great grandpa to 17 great grandkids. Jack is survived by his sister Ilene Rose; children, Paula (Philip) Beesley, Monte (Rita) Stevenson, Lee (Sandi) Stevenson, Susan Stevenson, and Todd (Karen) Stevenson; their mother Betty (Amos) Payne; grand and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings, Walter Stevenson, Myrtle Katzenmeier and Caron Hecker.
