Irene M Stoecker, 90, of Oakley, passed away Friday, September 24, 2021. She was born Irene Mae Nickel, to Arnold B and Lena M (Goossen) Nickel, on April 16, 1931, in Goessel, Kansas. She attended Antioch School, District 35, near Goessel, KS, graduating from the 8th grade. In 1946, the family moved to a farm near Oakley, where she then attended high school and graduated in May of 1949. Irene was the oldest of 8 children, with whom she had influence on each one.
She married Edward C Rempel, of Meade, KS, on September 30, 1949. He passed away in May of 1951. On November 14, 1952, she married Leo Edward Stoecker. To this union three children were born, Michael Lee, Marlece Ann and Marshall Dean.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, Edward and Leo; her parents, Arnold and Lena; a son, Marshall Dean; sister Joan L Snyder and brother John H Nickel.
She is survived by son, Michael, of Oakley and daughter, Marlece, of Prairie Village, KS; grandsons, Tucker M Brown, Leawood, KS and Taylor R Brown, Thornton, CO; a precious great grandson, Oliver Hudson Brown (Tucker), of Leawood, KS; brothers, Roy (Bernice) Nickel, Oakley and Bob (Kay) Nickel, Newton; sisters, Lois Schroeder, Buehler, KS, Elma (Eldon) Mesa, AZ and Julie Whitman, Wheeler; plus many nephews and nieces as well as, great-nephews and great-nieces. She also leaves behind a multitude of friends.
Cremation was chosen. The family will have a celebration of her life at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the NWKS Foundation for Hope, the Norman Yardley Cancer Fund or the United Christian Church of Oakley and may be sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 204, Oakley, KS 67701.
