Herman J. Schwarz, 81, of Colby, died Saturday, March 09, 2013 at Hays Medical Center. He was born Dec 22, 1931 to Alexander and Mary (Robben) Schwarz on the farm in Sheridan County. He served in the United States Army from 1953 till 1955. On Nov 22, 1956, he married his wife of 56 years, Joan Kaus. He worked for International Harvester from 1957 till 1985, owned and operated Schwarz Auto Electric from 1985 till 2002 and then helped in the cafeteria at Colby Public Schools. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Colby V.F.W and served on the North West Kansas Eagle Scout Board of Review.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Theresa Schwarz; two sisters, Loretta Bollig and Janice Schiefericke; a brother, Alex Schwarz.
He is survived by his wife Joan Schwarz of the home; six sons, Joseph (Holly), of Colorado Springs, CO, Mark, of Colby, Christopher (Allison), of McPherson, Patrick (Cary), of Hays, Jonathan (Kim), of Colby and Nathan (Megan), of Colby; two daughters, Mary (Steven) Farney, of McPherson and Amy (Mondo) White, of Victoria; an honorary son, Charles (Eileen) de Coune, of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Mary Ann Juenemann, of Selden and Sister Rita Schwarz, of Wichita; three half-sisters, Arvilla Juenemann, of Selden, Dorothy Sierri, of Aurora, CO, and Phillis Norton, of Manhattan; a half-brother, Irvin Schwarz, of Colby; 16 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
Visitation will be 10 am to 7:30 pm on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby with a Vigil service at 7pm. Funeral mass will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
