Herbert Clovis Teeter, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home on August 20, 2010. Herb was born in rural Sheridan County, KS to Harry and Regana (Young) Teeter on January 21, 1931. He was raised on a farm near Angelus, KS and attended Oakley High School graduating in 1949. Herb "Flash" Teeter attended Fort Hays State on a football scholarship. Herb was then presented with an opportunity by Uncle Sam and joined the Air Force on Feb 2, 1952. Herb married his high school sweetheart, Mary JoAnn Fink, on July 12, 1952. Herb and JoAnn were first stationed in Memphis, TN, then Ardmore, OK, prior to Herb being stationed overseas in Saudi Arabia where he served as an aviation electrician. Herb developed a love of airplanes and flying while in the service and eventually went on to earn his private pilots license and own his own planes. Following an honorable discharge on June 30, 1955, Herb and JoAnn moved to a farm northeast of Oakley where they began farming according to a method known as "Herb's Way or the Highway".
Throughout the years his love of flying and S.C.U.B.A diving found Herb and JoAnn living in Bull Shoals, AR where they made life long friends. Herb was a member of the VFW Post 2981, American Legion, Oakley Methodist Church and served on the South Randall township board. Two daughters were blessed with Herb's unconditional love, Tamera Jo Teeter and Tracee Tee Teeter. Herb's exterior sometimes hid a heart of gold, but those lucky enough to have known him knew a man with a passionate love of the land and his family. Herb will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and enjoyment of joking with friends and family. As a KU fan he especially enjoyed picking on area K-State fans.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, sister Darlene Hedden and grandson Morgen Crandell. Herb is survived by his wife JoAnn of the home, two daughters Tamera Teeter and friend Dean Althage of Salina, Tracee Teeter and fiance Randy Swart of Oakley, a sister Delores Allen of Lakewood, CO, and sister-in-law Glennis Parsons, and two grandsons, Sawyer Crandell and Asher Crandell.
