Hazel M. Duffey Long-time Thomas County resident, Hazel M. Duffey, passed away May 28, 2015. She was born November 27, 1921, in Thomas County, Kansas, to Raymond F. Farmer and Allie (Slater) Farmer. She married William Francis Duffey on June 16, 1940. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Forrest, Dean, and Vail; and grandson Brian Smith. She is survived by one brother, Lyle (Josephine) Farmer, Fontana, CA; one sister, Betty (Pat) Ryan, Gem, KS; three sons: Raymond (Lola) Duffey, Aurora, CO; Ralph (Gloria) Duffey, Salina, KS; Ross (Chris) Duffey, Manhattan, KS; two daughters: Bonnie (Don) Smith, Goodland, KS; and Deanna (Bob) Hanzlick, Colby, KS. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, many other family members and friends. Hazel was an active member/officer in the VFW Auxiliary and the First Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing for community service projects, which included making lap robes and over 1,400 walker caddy bags for disabled veterans, as well as baby quilts for church missions. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, at the Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel, Colby. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the funeral chapel. Burial service will be at the Beulah Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Colby VFW Auxiliary or the First Christian Church in care of Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel.
