George Frederick Luckert died February 14, 2015 at the age of 95. George was born on June 26, 1919, in Pawnee County, near Rozel, KS on the family farm. He was the second child of Frederick and Emma (Held) Luckert. In 1924, George moved with his family to a farm five and a half miles south of Edson, KS. George attended all 12 years of school at Edson. On February 4, 1941 George was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served with the 3595th Quarter Master Truck Company during World War II. George served overseas in four active campaigns mainly in England, France, Germany, Holland, and Austria for 21 months. He was discharged December 6, 1945. George returned to Goodland, KS where in 1947 George and his brother Charles “Bud” rented the Conrad Quirn farm, south of Brewster. George and Roberta Schindler met while she was working at Mom’s Café when George and his brother came into eat. George and Roberta were married on October 12, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Goodland, KS. Son Donald was born July 30, 1948. Daughter Marilyn followed on May 1, 1951. Daughter Betty was born October 13, 1954. In 1952, George and Roberta purchased the Chris Schmocker farm four miles south of Brewster and that farm is still the family farm today. George and Roberta remained on the family farm until building their home in Brewster in 1984. George and Roberta enjoyed Square Dancing for many years. George was also an active member in the VFW and American Legion. George enjoyed playing cards and spending time with their friends at the Brewster Senior Center and Brewster Co-op. George is preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles, sister Florine Harris, sister Marie Platt, and sister Viola Stein. George is survived by his wife of 67 years Roberta, son Don (Becky), Brewster, daughter Marilyn Peter (Vernon), Castle Rock, CO, daughter Betty Jensen, Great Bend, brother William, Topeka, brother Frank (Judy), Norwich, brother Ernest, Perry, OK, sister Frieda (Elmer) Roberts, Lamar, CO, sister Grace (Gene), Loveland, CO, and sister Beulah Barbosa, Sao Paulo Brazil. George is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 20, at 10:30am at the Brewster Community Church with Pastor Mike Pinkleman presiding. Pastor Mike Baughn of the Brewster United Methodist Church will preside at the graveside services. Memorials are suggested to the Goodland VFW or Colby American Legion.
