Gene Samson, age 72, of Atwood, KS died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on September 26, 1943, the only child of Adel and Alice (Collier) Samson in Colorado Springs, CO. He attended Prairie Center, a rural school near his home for the first seven years and graduated from the Rawlins County High School in the class of 1961. After graduating high school he moved to Denver, CO where he attended National Electronics School. After graduating in 1963, he returned to the family farm south of Atwood, where he made a living farming and ranching up until his death.
On June 20, 1966, he was united in marriage to Patsy Garrett in Baird, TX. They were married for 46-years. To this union, two daughters and a son were born.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, farming, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Colby, KS.
His parents and his wife preceded Gene in death.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Chessmore-Peacock and Jay Peacock, of Brighton, CO, and Melissa Vrbas and Gary Rolo, of Atwood, KS; son, Chad Samson of Atwood, KS; grandchildren, Mathew Hafer, Keith Vrbas, Savannah Warning, April and Alison Chessmore, Alexandria and Jonathan Samson, and Ashli and Josh Taylor and great-grandchildren Aria and Kadence.
Visitation will be from 4-7p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Atwood with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood.
