Garrold (Gary) Dale Torluemke, 82, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019, in Centennial, Colorado.
Gary was born on April 12, 1937, in Oberlin, KS, the son of Walter and Louise (Germeroth) Torluemke. He attended parochial school at St. John’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Decatur Community High School, in Oberlin, in 1955.
Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in El Paso, Texas. It was there that he met his first wife, Beverly Langberg. To this union, a son, Jeff Torluemke, was born. They later divorced.
After serving in the Army, Gary returned to Oberlin and joined his father in the farming business. He later moved to Denver where he was a carpet layer for many years, returning to Oberlin to farm during the farming season. He was an avid collector of miniature replicas of farm machinery.
Gary retired and lived in Centennial, CO, a suburb of Denver, where he met his wife, Rita Shephard.
Gary is survived by his wife, Rita; his son, Jeff Torluemke and wife, Karen, of Hoxie, KS; grandchildren, Jessica Dennis and husband, Jack, of Hays, KS, Mark Torluemke and wife Kim of Littleton, CO, Kimberly Jager and husband, Brek, of Wamego, KS and Alexia Torluemke, of Hoxie, KS; his sister Anita Wolgast and husband, Larry, of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law Janet Torluemke, of Aurora, CO and great-grandchildren, Riley Dennis, Lawrence and Joanna Torluemke, and Eli, Kynlee and Rooks Jager.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ronald and Mark and granddaughter, Kristen Torluemke.
Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Oberlin, KS, on Friday, June 28, 2019, at 10:30 a.m.
Gary was a kind and gentle man. He loved his family and the Lord. Gary loved to visit, always striking up a conversation with those he met. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
