Frieda Christina Jones

Frieda Jones, 94, of Colby, died Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Citizen’s Medical Center. She was born May 18, 1930, in New Salem, ND to Phillip and Emma (Seager) Heid. She was born and raised in New Salem, ND on a farm north of town. She attended country school and graduated from the 8th grade. She married Henry Brandt in November of 1948. They had two daughters. After his passing in 1958 Frieda and the girls moved to town. She met Gene Jones in 1959, and they married in August of 1960. The next year their son Shane was born. In December of 1967 the family moved to Colby, KS. Frieda enjoyed helping Gene with painting and the finishing work in houses he built. She worked as a waitress at Nickerson Farms Restaurant and later worked for Colby Middle School in the cafeteria for 17 years. Later in life she serviced rooms at the Comfort Inn in Colby. Frieda loved to bake, so there were always fresh cookies in her cookie jar. She was an accomplished seamstress, making amazing quilts and a variety of other creative keepsakes. The highlight of her life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of College Drive Assembly of God Church in Colby.

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Henry Brandt and husband Gene Jones; brothers, Edward and Gilbert Heid; sisters, Wilma Robertson, Elsie Wetzel, Hilda Golde, Ester McConnell, and Helen Morganstern; son-in-law Al Smith; and grandson Vance Smith. 

She is survived by her children, Peggy Smith, Colby, Pam (Al) Jones of Canadian, OK, and Shane (Amy) Jones of Topeka, KS; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Cremation was chosen. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 27, 2024, at College Drive Assembly of God in Colby. A graveside service will follow at Beulah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to College Drive Assembly of God for youth or children’s ministries and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
