Franklin C. Lunkwitz, 84, of Monument, died Monday, July 17, 2017. Born June 10, 1933, Sutherland, NE, to Charles and Iva (Ward) Lunkwitz. Frank served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He married Adela Jara, September 23, 1967, Ogallala, NE. Frank worked at Keystone Ranch, in Keystone, NE. He attended Milford Trade School to become a mechanic. He was the night foreman for Mitten’s Truck Stop for 20 years. Frank and his wife, Della, ran El Ranchito “Della’s” Cafe for 39 years.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Irven, Bill and Roy and sisters, Lilly Lavaley and Eunice Hamlett.
He is survived by his wife, Della; children, Yvette (Truman) Coffman, Kyla (Mike) Kaslon, Franklin (Melissa) Lunkwitz, Charles (Robine) Lunkwitz and Maria (Roger) Benefield; sisters, Rosie (Tom) Neilsen and Iona (Fred) Seifer; twenty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, with burial to follow in the Monument Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Frank C. Lunkwitz Nursing Scholarship, in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 204, Oakley, KS 67748. Frank was so moved by the incredible care he received from the entire nursing staff at Logan County Hospital that he wanted to give a scholarship to a deserving nursing student.
