Francis “Frank” Joseph Pianalto, 72, died Wednesday August 27th in Sun City, AZ.
He was born January 8, 1942, to George and Clara (Barenberg) Pianalto in Atwood, KS. He attended grade school at the Hillside School District in rural Atwood and attended high school at Maur Hill Prep School in Atchinson, KS, graduating in 1960.
He served in the US Air force from 1960-1964 including a post as SGT for the Ground Equipment Repair for the Thunderbirds in 1963-1964 where he received honors including Airman of the Year.
He attended Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in Agri-Business in 1968. He enjoyed a long and rewarding 30 plus year career as a Farmer’s Cooperative Manager. In 2009, he moved to Waddell, AZ to fulfil his lifelong dream of desert retirement. He was an avid golfer, sports fan, bike rider, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was an active member in the Phoenix chapter of the American Singles Golf Association and of the St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Surprise, AZ where he volunteered and was a member of the church choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Gene, Lester, Charles, Elmer and John; and four sisters, Lorine Bliss, Agnes Faimon, Georgene Kohler, and Rita Antholz.
Survivors include his two sons, Dan and wife, Michelle of Garden City, KS., Nick and wife, Olivia of Savanah, GA; one daughter, Marla of Melbourne, AUS; two brothers, Albert Pianalto and wife, Deanna of Chester, VA., and Fred Pianalto and wife, Janice of Carlton, MN.; five sisters, Marjorie Horinek and husband, A.J. of Atwood; Patricia Simoni and husband, Frank of Woodstock, CT, Betty Golwas of Tulsa, OK., Shirley Price of Cottage Hills, IL., and Linda Lattanzi and husband, Andrew of Boulder, CO.; 4 grandchildren Chase, Carissa, Hannah, and Kaden as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Vigil will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood, KS with Father Gnanasekar. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood, KS.
