Frances Josephine (Holub) Kompus, third daughter of Florian William and Frances Rose (Chleborad) Holub, was born in rural Beardsley, KS, on November 11, 1921. She died on June 28, 2023, at the age of 101, at the Rawlins County Health Center, in Atwood, KS.
Frances was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Atwood, where she was a life-long member. She was also a life-long resident of Rawlins County, KS, except for a period during World War II, where she worked at Gate’s Rubber Company, in Denver, CO.
On May 22, 1946, Frances was united in marriage to Albert Louis Kompus, Sr, at Sacred Heart Church, Atwood. They spent their lives farming in Rawlins County. To this union, two children were born, a daughter, Frances “Fran”, and a son, Albert, Jr. Her husband Albert preceded her in death on October 10, 1982.
Over the years, Frances worked at the high school cafeteria, café, Crest Motel and in the laundry department at the Good Samaritan. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and bingo.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Albert; daughter-in-law, Deborah (Horinek) Kompus; parents, Florian and Frances; infant brother Florian; brothers-in-law, Paul Kopriva and Victor Pochop; parents-in-law, John and Teresa (Toth) Kompus and brothers and sisters-in-law, Louella (Herman) Solko, John (Viola) (Vivian), George, Francis (Margie Howland), Emery (Verna), Elizabeth (Ralph Wolfram) (Lloyd Harden) and Wilma (Denis) Tongish.
Those who are left to mourn her are daughter, Frances “Fran” (Dennis) Allacher, McCook, NE; son, Albert Kompus, Jr.; grandchildren, Denise Allacher, Danelle (Tim) Heier, Danica (Gregg) Hauxwell, Nathan Kompus, great-grandchildren, Joseph, Joshua, Alayna, Abigail, Izabella, William, Clara, Charlie (Bailey) and William; great-great grandchildren, Hadley, Jasper and Salem; sisters, Julia Kopriva and Lucy Pochop; cousins, Louis Sabatha and Phyllis Wilkinson and a host of other relatives.
A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Atwood, KS.
