Floris J. Guether, 73, of Oakley, died Friday, Dec 24, 2010. She was born on July 31, 1937 to Frank and Mary (Huber) Crosby in Rexford, KS. She married Ronald Guenther on June 14, 1958.
Floris June (Crosby) Guenther, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother began her next journey on Friday morning December 24, 2010. She died peacefully at her home.
She was born July 31st, 1937 to Frank and Mary (Huber) Crosby at their farm home in rural Rexford, Kansas. She had three older brothers to welcome her and later two more brothers came alone. They later moved to Sharon Springs, Kansas where she grew up and graduated from high school. On June 14, 1958 she marred Ronald “Wimp” Guenther in Goodland, Kansas. They made their home in Sharon Springs, Kansas. To this union four children came, Doug, Mary Alice and twin daughters Bonnie & Connie. In 1970 they moved to Oakley Kansas where they still reside.
Floris worked at Traders Supermarket for 13 years in the meat department helping her husband “Wimp”. In 1982 she went to work for Ed Mildenburger managing Mildes Liquor for 19 years, she retired in 2001. She enjoyed doing crafts with her daughter Mary for a few years after retiring, But mostly reading and spending time with her loving husband of 52 ½ years. Floris’s claim to fame is that she is Bing Crosby’s 33rd cousin; he is the singer who made “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” popular. Her great aunt did the genealogy.
Floris was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Francis, Clyde and Kenny; two sister-in-law’s Helen and Kathy.
She is survived by her loving husband “Wimp” of the home; son Doug and friend Karla of Dorrance, Ks; daughters Mary and husband Greg Andersen of rural Oakley, Ks, Bonnie and husband Alan Dizmang of Colby, Ks and Connie and husband J.D. Hill of Eskridge, Ks; Six grandchildren, Casey Andersen and wife Brandy of rural Oakley, Ks, Linley Andersen of Hays, Ks, Andrea and Aaron Dizmang of Colby, Ks and Carley and Carrie Hill of Eskridge, Ks; one great granddaughter Bailey Andersen of rural Oakley, Ks; brothers Don Crosby of Emmett, Id, Verle and wife Connie Crosby of Rimrock, Az; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank Hospice for their help allowing mom to be at home with her loved ones during her last months at home, to Deb Jackson and Jody Harbaugh for their love and support to us through this difficult time. To her friends and family and ours without your love and support we could not have made this all work. We love you all from the bottom of our hearts!!
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec 28, 2010 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. Funeral service will be weds, Dec, 29, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at Baalmann Mortuary.
