Eugene Roy

Eugene (Gene) Roy passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Atwood, KS at the age of 87. He was born July 9, 1926 on the family farm in Rooks County, KS to Dona and Nathalie (Asselin) Roy. Gene was raised on the family farm with 9 brothers and sisters and attended school in Webster, KS.

After High School Gene enlisted in the United States Army. He was part of the Greatest Generation and served during World War II. His service took him many places in Europe where he drove a tank and other equipment. He was very proud of his country, achieved the rank of Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Margaret A. Mumm from Selden, KS on October 7, 1947. She was the love of his life, and they were married for 66 years. They lived in several places in Kansas, Iowa and Missouri; and settled in Phillipsburg, KS in 1949. Gene worked hard to support his family, working at the refinery in Phillipsburg, KS for many years, and farming on the side. He enjoyed working the land and raising livestock. After retiring they moved to Atwood, KS in 1996 where they are members of the Sacred Heart Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dona and Nathalie Roy; one sister, Shirley Roy, and two brothers, Albert and Laverne Roy; and two grandchildren.
Gene was a much loved husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and took great pleasure in being with them. He was a kindhearted and generous man that was loved by those whose life he touched.

He is survived by his wife Margaret (Marge); three daughters, Shirley Dykes, Phoenix, AZ; Doris Chase and husband Dustin, Salina, KS; Connie Cooper and husband Mike, Atwood, KS; and two sons, Duane Roy, Trinidad, CO; Mike Roy and wife Carole, Centennial, CO, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-7pm, Friday, Nov 15, 2013 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Funeral Mass will be 10:00am on Saturday, Nov 16, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood.
