Ethel M. Gillespie, 81, of Oakley, formerly of Grainfield, died Thursday, December 3, 2015. She was born June 7, 1934 in Munjor, KS to John and Lenora (Legleiter) Dechant. On Aug. 28, 1957 she married Gilbert “Gib” Gillespie, in WaKeeney, KS. Ethel enjoyed baking, playing cards, sewing, playing the slot machines and gardening. She prided herself on growing beautiful flowers and had a home remedy for everything. One of Ethel’s favorite pass times was going out for coffee, where she enjoyed conversing with any one she came across. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Grainfield.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Gib; her parents and three sisters, Pat Sowers, Dorothy Cox and Edna Thomas.
She is survived by her children, Vickie (Dan) Weber, of Park, KS and Rick (Denise) Gillespie, of Grainfield, KS; seven grandchildren, Becky (Lincoln) Tucker, Carrie (Kenneth) Weber, Darren Weber, Shane (Jason) Baalmann, Allee, Mason and Tuker Gillespie; sister, Judy Stroup, Grainfield; eleven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation was chosen. Family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. A Memorial Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Grainfield with inurnment to follow in the Grainfield Cemetery.
