Erma Hein

Erma Jean (Donn) Hein Erma Jean Hein peacefully passed away December 7, 2014 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, at the age of 85 while surrounded by her family. Erma was born April 7, 1929 on the family farm north of Levant and was the third child of Reiners and Freda (Duden) Donn. She attended school in Levant, and participated in basketball in high school. Erma married Eugene Marvin Hein on September 22, 1946 in Colby, and they made their home there until they moved to Levant in 1949. In 1951, they moved to Hastings, Nebraska for a short time. They returned to Levant and lived there until 1958, when they moved to the farm north of Levant. To the union two children were born, Glenda Jean and Gregory Eugene. Her husband preceded her in death in 1994, two years prior to their 50th wedding anniversary. Erma then moved to Colby in 1996. Erma was a home maker and traveled with her husband, from Oklahoma to North Dakota, as custom harvesters for 35 years. While on harvest, she cooked hot meals for the crew. Erma was an excellent cook, which she enjoyed passing down to her granddaughters. She was a member of the VFW Auxillary and a past member of the Prairie Rose Ladies Aid. Erma was a perfectionist in everything she did; everything had to be perfect. She took great pride in her home and yard, especially planting flowers and a garden. Sewing and keeping a daily diary were also some of her favorite past times. One of her life long wishes was fulfilled on October 14, 2014 when she was baptized as a Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers LaVern, Jim and John Donn, sister-in-law Eva Donn, great niece Ami Donn, and great nephew Jason Donn. Erma leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter Glenda Jean Merideth and son Gregory Eugene both of Colby; her granddaughters Amanda Jean and Kevin Call of Fayetteville, NC and Misty Jean Merideth and significant other Jerrad Koonse of Wichita, KS; two great granddaughters Alixus and Makenzie Call; sister Shirley and Dick Parnell of Colby; sister-in-law Frances Donn of Stuart, FL; and nine nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews, and four great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 2:00-8:00pm at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at the chapel on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:30am. Burial will follow at the Beulah Cemetery in Colby.
