Elsie May Bloom Cox passed away Sunday, August 24th, 2014 at Hays Medical Center at the age of 82. Elsie Cox, daughter of Helen and Dick Mannen, was born December 6th, 1931 in Oakley, KS. She graduated from Oakley High School in 1950 and moved to Colby, KS. where she lived the remainder of her life. She worked at the Thomas County Hospital, Colby Police Department as a dispatcher and the City of Colby offices. On April 10th, 1952 she married Richard L. Cox in Roswell, New Mexico. Elsie is survived by her husband Richard of the home, sister Patsy Chvilcek and brother Dean both of Derby, KS, children; Eddie (Denise) Cox, Ben Wheeler, TX; Bob (Jeanette) Cox, McPherson, KS; Connie (Marvin) Skagerberg, Plano, TX; Donnie Cox (Ginger), Wheatland, MO.; Karen Matzen, (Bob), Clearwater, KS; Rich (Kristie) Cox, De Soto, KS; Ken (Rhonda) Cox, Liberty, MO.; Jackie (Dan) Hovda, Pagossa Springs, CO.; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren & 2 great- great grandchildren. Elsie was a wonderful women who lived her life dedicated to her family, friends and community. Her abundant energy was always evident. During her early married years she worked full time, cared for her children and home (which was always immaculate). All 10 family members would load up in the station wagon and head to Texas to see extended family, frequent week-end trips to the lake were a life- long tradition. Playing games with her grandkids and dancing with her husband of 62 years were two of her favorite things. Her ability to host amazing dinners was another example of her many special talents. After retirement, Elsie became an enthusiastic volunteer, serving several organizations including Pink Ladies, & Meals on Wheels. She never hesitated to take homemade soup to a sick friend or neighbor. Elsie was a member of the VFW and American Legion auxillaries. The family suggests memorials to Colby Meals on Wheels. Funeral services will be Saturday Aug. 30th at 2:00 p.m., at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel, 745 S Country Club Dr., Colby, KS. with Inurnment to follow at Beulah Cemetery.
