Elric “Rick” Alfred Tremblay, 91, of Colby, died Wednesday, January 1, 2020. He was born in rural Cloud County, Kansas, near St. Joseph, on February 5, 1928, to Eli and Edmee (Bouley) Tremblay. Rick graduated from Concordia High School in 1947. He then attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri to learn the art of telegraphy. In April 1948, he became certified as a telegrapher for the Union Pacific Railroad and began working for them as the Depot Agent in Palco, Kansas. From October 11, 1950, to October 2, 1952, he served with the U.S. Army40th Signal Corps in Korea. After the war, he resumed his job with the railroad in Palco, where he married the love of his life, Patricia Morton, on November 10, 1952, in Damar, Kansas. After several moves in Northwest Kansas, he retired from the Union Pacific railroad while living in Colby, Kansas. Rick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby and a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed volunteering his time with RSVP, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patricia; daughter Deborah Kay Tremblay and brothers, Sylveo and Melvin Tremblay.
He is survived by his son, Kevin (Joyce) of Hoxie; daughters, Karen (Ed) Rimmer, of Salina, Shelly (Jim) Harms, of Colby, and Lisa Johnson, of Salina; grandchildren, Kyle (Shayla) Tremblay, Wade (Amanda) Tremblay, Bret (Nicole)Tremblay, Thomas (Amy) Rimmer, Elizabeth (Elliott) Meckley, Justin Harms, Amanda (Chris) White, Tammy Johnson, Christina (Kenneth) Frank and Bryan(Tiffani) Johnson and twenty one great grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2020, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020,at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
