Elinor Janet (McCain) Norman departed this life on March 8 2016. She was born in Oberlin, KS to Louis H. and Bethel McCain on May 14, 1935. She was raised with her two brothers on the family farm south of Atwood, KS and attended grade school at harmony #10. She graduated from Atwood Community High School in 1953. During her high school years she worked at Greason Drug Store and Bellamy Drug Store.
In 1956 she married Gayle L. Norman. To this union, a daughter, Jan LoRee and a son Gayle L. Norman Jr. (J.R.) were born. Janet was a farm wife and was devoted to taking care of her family. She loved living on the Norman family farm and preferred working in her yard and raising a large garden to being inside. She was a loving mother and wonderful grandmother. She moved from the farm to Atwood in 1970.
Janet loved being a daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandma, and great grandma. Her family was very important to her and she treasured family memories.
Janet worked at the E.C. Mellick Agency, Rawlins County Farm Bureau and most recently, the Spresser Agency. She loved talking with the customers and made many friends over the years. She retired in 2011 at the age of 76.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, John and Gene; their wives, Shirley and Marty; brother-in-law Arden Norman and his wife Nancy, and a niece, Cynthia McCain.
Those remaining to celebrate her life are her children Jan (Lynn) Curtin of Atwood, KS and J.R. of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Nathan (Ashley) Childers of Hogansville, GA, Clay Curtin of San Mateo, CA, Shelia(Michael) Schneider of Hogansville, GA, Jason (Megan) Norman of North Platte, NE, Katie (Nathan) Chance of Brighton, CO and Jessie Curtin and fiancé Ben Baczenas of St. Louis, MO; great grandchildren, Alisha, Kailey, Madison, and Natalie Schneider, Makyn, Ryon, Ava, and Gavin Childers, Claire and Jackson Norman, and Emma and Bella Chance; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016 in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood, KS. Memorials are suggested to Rawlins County E.M.S. and Rawlins County High School Alumni Association. Online condolences: www.baalmannmortuary.com
