Eleanor W. Kruse of Oakley, was born on September 2, 1920 to John and Catherine (Korte) Robben on a farm in Thomas County, KS. She passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Logan County Hospital, Oakley, KS, at the age of 93. Eleanor attended Angelus Grade School and proudly earned her GED at the age of fifty (50). On July 4, 1940, she married William (Bill) L. Kruse in Angelus, KS. Bill passed away in 1961; Eleanor continued to live in Angelus where she raised their six children. Many will remember Eleanor as one of the cooks at the Angelus Grade School who produced wonderful meals for over 35 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Angelus Daughters of Isabella and St. Joseph Altar Society. In 1992 she moved from her home in Angelus to Oakley where she resided until her death. Eleanor’s greatest love was her deep faith in God and her family. She spent many hours sewing and baking for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, especially with her grandchildren, and in her later years, going for donuts and coffee with her many friends.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 5 brothers, Herman, Ben, Ed, Fred and Rich; 3 sisters, Mary Schwarz, Elvira Halbleib, Cresentia Robben and an infant granddaughter, Katie Lang.
She is survived by her six children, Beverly (Tom) Traverse of Buffalo, NY, Janet (Kenneth) Struckhoff of Grinnell, KS, Bill (Jerry) Kruse of Grinnell, KS, Mary Lee (Larry) Oren, Colby, KS, Joyce (Larry) Christensen, Dana Point, CA and Elaine (Jerry) Wycoff, Oakley, KS; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley, with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, with burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Angelus.
