Edith Rogers

August 3, 1921 — December 24, 2013

Edith Beulah Rogers, 92, of Atwood, passed away at her home Tuesday, December 24, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born August 3, 1921 in rural Thomas County to Henry “Hank” Clement and Hilda Marie (Rodenbeck) Kersenbrock. She attended a country school in Thomas County and graduated from Colby High School with the class of 1939. She married Alden Herbert Rogers on November 19, 1941 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Vernon, CA until 1946 at which time they returned to Atwood to live, farm and raise cattle. While raising five daughters, Edith was active in the United Methodist Church, UMW, Merry 12 card club, the Union club and square dancing. Edith enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, gardening, playing cards, sewing for her daughters and needle work.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Betty Lucille Kersenbrock and great grandson Bear Thayne Luedke.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane (John) Vap, Atwood, Donna (Bill) Roe, Atchison, Darlene (Lloyd) Irwin, Albuquerque, NM, Joyce (Russ) Shreves, Wichita and Joann Luedke, Lenexa; sisters, Lillian Maurer, Urbana, IN and Norma Baird, Brewster, KS; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.


Visitation will be 2-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Atwood, with interment to follow in Atwood Fairview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Kansas or the United Methodist Church, Atwood in care of Baalmann Mortuary, 109 N 2nd, Atwood, KS 67730. Online condolences: www.baalmannmortuary.com
