Duane Dawes

Duane Frank Dawes, 86, of Colby, died Monday, April 7, 2014 at Citizens Medical Center. He was born January 23, 1928 in Thomas County, KS to Frank and Anna (Blaser) Dawes. He married Lois Jean Ekberg on September 12, 1948 in Colby. He was a farmer and rancher and was active in his community. He served on the S&T Telephone Board, Brewster School Board, Farm Service Agency Board and Thomas County Commissioners. He was a Mason and a member of the High Plains Shriners. He was also a member of the Levant Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Jean Dawes; children Mike (Teresa) Dawes of Chanute and Terri (Rod) Arnberger of Levant; grandchildren Lindsey (Jason) Hess of Oklahoma City, Brett (Ashley) Arnberger of Colby, Lacey Dawes of Frontenac, Katie Dawes of Norton, VA, great grandson Ruxin Dawes Arnberger of Colby; Eva Keck of Colby, raised as a sister.

Visitation is 10:00 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Memorials are suggested to the Thomas County Historical Society or Levant Community Church in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. Online condolences: www.baalmannmortuary.com
