Doug “Brownie” Brown, age 64, passed away May 31, 2018 surrounded by his family in Hays, KS. He was born in Atwood, KS on September 4, 1953 to Paul and Shirley Brown, the youngest of three siblings. Doug graduated from Atwood High School in 1971 and earned a certificate in Turf Management from Penn State the following year. He married Brenda Kastens Henry in 1972 and had three daughters, Michelle, April and Tiffanie. Doug was a groundskeeper at the Atwood Golf Course from 1973 - 1977 and Junction City Country Club from 1977 - 1979. Doug returned to Atwood with his family to farm after the death of his brother Jerry in 1979. In 1995, Doug married Wanda Bennett Brown and welcomed her daughters, Kali and Kelsey, into his family. Doug continued to farm and was the groundskeeper at Colby Country Club from 2004 until his retirement in 2016. Doug loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings, watching the kids play sports and school performances. Doug was a generous friend, always willing to help a neighbor or stranger in need. He loved the game of golf and enjoyed teaching family and friends to play. Doug is survived by his father Paul Brown Jr, sister Dana Unruh, wife Wanda, daughters and their spouses Michelle & Antonio Carnes, April & Matt Green, Tiffanie & Shawn Craig, Kali & AJ Woofter and Kelsey & Russell Miller, grandchildren India, Marrah & Solomon Carnes, Maverick & Cyrus Green, Tegan Woofter and Olivia & Parker Miller. Doug is preceded in death by his brother, Gerald “Jerry” Brown, mother, Shirley Edwards Brown and grandparents Paul & Flossie Brown and Maude & Murray Edwards. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 2nd at the Atwood Golf Course with light snacks from 6-8pm and a service on the 4 fairway just after 8pm. Donations can be made to the Atwood Golf Course Equipment Fund in his memory.
