Dorothy Reinert

February 26, 1929 — February 19, 2014

Dorothy Agnes (Holub) Reinert, 84, of Atwood, departed this life on February 19, 2014. She was born on Feb. 26, 1929 in Stratton, Neb., to Adolph and Mary Holub. She was the seventh of 11 children in that family. Dorothy was united in marriage to Francis "Frank" Gerald Reinert on March 30, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood. To this union two children were born, Jeff and Debbie. She was a very hands-on, devoted mother, making sure her children always had delicious food in their bellies and nice clothes on their backs. Dorothy took being a "farm wife" very seriously, as it was not just a job for her husband, but a partnership. She worked side-by-side with Frank every day, tending to land, a whole host of farm animals and also purebred dogs. When Frank died in 1996, the livestock operation was scaled down, as it took both husband and wife to complete the daily work. To say that she was a cook is an understatement, as it was her greatest talent and the way she best showed love. Dorothy took cooking jobs at almost every restaurant in town, spanning several decades, to supplement the family income. Many people still remember Dorothy as one of the "greats" in the kitchen. More importantly was her diligent efforts to please her family at the dinner table. Her six grandchildren remember her engaging them by staying up until 2 a.m. playing cards, eating junk food, making work and chores fun and generally spoiling them. Not only did Dorothy show her kids and grandchildren a love of life and outdoors, she taught them to be spiritually sound. What made Dorothy so special as a woman, though, was her ability to work like a man through sun and snow, covered in sweat and dirt, and still have a full meal on the table when the workday was through. She was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers Alter Society of Atwood.

Preceding her in death was her devoted husband Frank; her parents; and ten siblings.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Reinert and wife, Marion of Garden City, KS; daughter-in-law, Karen Reinert of Herington, KS; daughter Debbie and husband, Kay Rummel of Ludell, KS; grandchildren, Amy, Carrie and Andrew Reinert and wife, Elizabeth; Chad Fields and wife, Teather; Danya and husband, Jared Odom; Tara and husband, Paul Hayden; great-grandchildren Emily, Jalen, Jordynn, Karsten, Alexander, Malachi, Ryker, Mya, Mia and Violet; sisters-in-law, Dorothy R.
